This week has been an interesting week in the office – we have been busy making new resources for our students. Some of which can already be seen on our site!
We are currently working on publishing content for the AQA GCSE Power and Conflict Poetry Anthology. Two of our favourite poems in the office are ‘Ozymandias’ and ‘My Last Duchess’. Both of these you could compare together in your exams! We are particularly focused on getting the core content out to our students in these resources and trying them out in lessons with our students. Breaking them down into sections in our PowerPoints and getting what is most important across. If you don’t understand the key elements of your texts, then you won’t get the grades you want. ‘Ozymandias’ and ‘My Last Duchess’ compare particularly well together in that they both have a dominant voice in the poem and how nothing will last forever. Listening to various audio recordings on YouTube and other sources has helped us with this. ‘My Last Duchess’ resource we are currently creating but feel free to download Ozymandias!
In lessons, our students are mainly focusing on poetry and Shakespeare. Next week, we will be moving onto essay writing within lessons. Don’t forget the PEEAS structure and you won’t go far wrong in your essays. But if you have a different way of writing essays, don’t be afraid to show it!
A lot of students we get simply say, I don’t know how to write essays. It’s not that you don’t know how to write them, it’s often the structure that is struggled with the most. Our student’s have great ideas and we just help them to put it all into place. Make it read like a story almost!
Some of our students have already started revising! While we encourage revision, please don’t burn yourselves out too early! It’s important to get the grades and look after yourselves as well. Exam season is not yet upon us!
Hoping everyone is getting the most out of their education. If not, we’re here to help!
